Exploring the Beauty and Intrigue

of Ancient Narratives

About Life&Text

Welcome to Life&Text!

My name is James Maurice Morgan. I am a lecturer and researcher in the biblical studies department at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Life&Text explores how people from ancient times expressed their understanding of their world and how that influenced their texts and vice versa.

Here you will find some of my publications and videos on history, theology, and literature and how they intermingle in texts such as the writings of Herodotus, Thucydides, Aristotle, Luke the evangelist, and the apostle Paul.

I hope you enjoy these contributions and thank you for your support to do further research.

My Current Research

One of my passions is to explore questions that open up to me as I perform research. Take a look at my current research projects on my research page.

Check out my publications

While serving at various schools of theology, I have been able to publish in Italian, French, and English. Some of the publications are for my academic peers, others are for pastors and students of theology, and others are for a broad readership. You can get I idea of my areas of interest by exploring my Publications page.

Teaching at the University of Fribourg and elsewhere!

I have had the privilege of teaching in Niger, Italy, and Switzerland. I joined the Biblical Studies Department at the University of Fribourg in 2012.

On my Teaching page, you can see what I teach and where, including church contexts.

Videos: Interviews, Tutorials, and Documentaries

Like many people during the COVID-19 Pandemic, I started a YouTube channel. That was fun, and I decided to continue to produce videos for my students of biblical Greek. Then I branched out and made some videos on historical and literary questions, as well as some interviews with my colleagues.

A few are on my Videos page and all the others are on my YouTube channel!

Keep up with my news on my Blog!

I’m amazed by people, events, and nature. They all tell their stories in their own way. Even from the distant past!

Every week or so I post some news about my research, teaching, and life.

The power of narratives
"Stories draw us into the world of the real and the imaginary using an astonishing variety of literary devices. They inspire us to live in light of their examples and values, which often leads us to write our own stories."
